Advertising Department Internship

All the jobs I have had in the past had nothing to do with what I wanted to do with my degree, graphic design...and I think it's important to have a job in your degree field before graduating to get your foot in the door. So it's required to take this class about whether you're you have the right degree in mind and our instructor always emphasized on having an internship to help get that foot in the door. My mother suggested my past summer job but ask to work in the Advertising Department. I got in contact with the owner and said he would be will to create an internship for me! I told my academic adviser, who was also that classes instructor, about this great opportunity and he mentioned how it can count for academic credits (one of my 3-400 level classes). I filled out the paperwork and told my future supervisor.

Current Ad

I worked (2017) in a local wholesale distribution advertising department office. We create weekly ads for the stores that are in the ad program. Each week the supervisor would come out with a survey of the items that were going to be on sale in that week's ad. From that survey, she made a simplified list so we know what to name the items in the ad. For example, a brand of soft drink has many kinds of that soft drink like regular, diet, calorie-free, etc. and she would simplify it to (insert Brand Name here) Soft Drinks. I would create the weekly flyer master. We would send the master to the stores and they would fax back any changed they wanted and we would change them.

Publix Inspo

I personally didn't care too much for how it looked. To me, seemed chunky and inconstant. My supervisor showed me a while ago of this grocer Publix and how their ads look, and I loved how clean it was. So in my free time, I created a new layout with the inspiration of Publix ads. I later showed the supervisor and she loved it!

My Version

I soon made a second version of my layout with more items. Some stores come with changes that include adding more items which make the ad more cluttered. I just wanted to see how it would look and I'm not too disappointed.
